'National Night Out' The event, in which millions across the nation participate, will take place here at Annapolis Gardens, 250 Croll Drive, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to join in on America's night out against crime. Comedy and music show The Laughter, Love & Fiddle Comedy Tour comes to Club Meade, 6600 Mapes Road on Fort Meade. The show, which starts at 7 p.m., will feature performances by comedian Paul Varghese and singer-fiddler Natalie Stovall. Big-band concert The U.S. Army Field Band continues its annual summer concert series at 7 p.m. at Constitution Park on Fort Meade with music by the Jazz Ambassadors. The band will perform a mix of big-band swing, Latin, contemporary jazz, jazz standards, Dixieland and patriotic selections. Admission is free, and no tickets are required. Navy boot camp The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center of the U.S. Naval Academy holds the second of its annual "Navy Way" boot camps on Aug. 18. Basic Boot Camp is a morning program; Advanced Boot Camp is an afternoon program. Basic Boot Camp is for recruits ages 6-12 and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Recruits are issued sailor's caps, learn Navy terms, march, chant, follow orders and eat in a simulated mess hall. The cost is $35 and includes a "Dixie cup" cap, camp, lunch (two slices of pizza and a soda) and a certificate of participation at graduation. Advanced Boot Camp is for graduates of Basic Boot Camp ages 9-12 and runs from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants take seamanship training (tying knots), learn how to use semaphore flags and march in precision drill. The cost is $40 and includes all training materials. Graduates attain the rank of Swabbie 1st Class and receive certificates of participation and buttons for their caps at graduation. Festival The Kegs and Corks Beer and Wine Festival will be held Aug. 25-26 at Blob's Park, 8024 Max Blobs Park Road in Jessup. The event also features musical performances by the Kelly Bell Band, Sweet Leda, Appaloosa, Roadhouse Clams and others. AACC gala Anne Arundel Community College will hold a gala Oct. 13 at the Westin Baltimore Washington Airport-BWI, 1110 Old Elkridge Landing Road in Linthicum. The "2012 Gala — Welcome to our Future" event will be an evening of dinner and dancing and will offer attendees a chance to meet AACC's sixth president, Dawn Lindsey.
