Dinner and baseball The Bowie Baysox will host a "German Bierstube Beer Dinner" as the team takes on the Binghamton Mets at Prince George's Stadium. The event includes a two-hour buffet and three-hour open bar in the Diamond View restaurant. Gates open at 6 p.m., and food is served until 8 p.m. The menu includes tossed mixed greens, steamed shrimp, roasted pork loin, salmon curran, braised brats and onions, mixed vegetables, warm German potato salad and apple strudel crunch. Adoption day at the pound The SPCA will host its inaugural "Half Marathon Adoption Day" from 8 a.m. to 9:10 p.m. at 1815 Bay Ridge Ave. in Annapolis. Activities include a "fun run" hosted by Fleet Feet Annapolis beginning at 8:30 a.m. and a "runner's expo" from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The expo will include tables, giveaways and/or discounts from the Annapolis Striders, Annapolis Tri Club, TCS Annapolis Half Marathon, Spark Running and Fleet Feet Annapolis. Crab feast The Rotary Club of Annapolis will hold its annual crab feast from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis. The all-you-can-eat-and-drink affair includes large and No. 1 male crabs, Maryland crab soup, corn on the cob, beef barbecue, hot dogs, draft beer, sodas and water. Navy boot camp The Armel-Leftwich Visitor Center of the U.S. Naval Academy holds the second of its annual "Navy Way" boot camps on Aug. 18. Basic Boot Camp is a morning program; Advanced Boot Camp is an afternoon program. Basic Boot Camp is for recruits ages 6-12 and runs from 10 a.m. to noon. Recruits are issued a sailor's cap, learn Navy terms, march, chant, follow orders and eat in a simulated mess hall. The cost is $35 and includes a "Dixie cup" cap, camp, lunch (two slices of pizza and a soda) and a certificate of participation at graduation. Advanced Boot Camp is for graduates of Basic Boot Camp ages 9-12 and runs from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participants take seamanship training (tying knots), learn how to use semaphore flags and march in precision drill. The cost is $40 and includes all training materials. Graduates attain the rank of Swabbie 1st Class and receive a certificate of participation and a button for their cap at graduation. Festival The Kegs and Corks Beer and Wine Festival will be held Aug. 25-26 at Blob's Park, 8024 Max Blobs Park Road in Jessup.
