Y facility open
The Y of Central Maryland celebrated the opening of the Greater Annapolis Family Center Y with a ribbon cutting Nov. 1 at the center, 1209 Ritchie Hwy., Arnold.
Formerly Big Vanilla Athletic Club in Arnold, the facility became the Y of Central Maryland's first family center in Anne Arundel County in September.
On Saturday, Nov. 16, former Fox 45 reporter Joel D. Smith will read his children's Christmas book, "Santa's Secret Deal," to help the Collins Family ShopRite of Glen Burnie kick off its 2013 Toys for Tots Drive. ShopRite will offer the book free to the first 25 that sign up for the readings at 10 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 11:30 a.m. or 12:15 p.m.
The store is located at 6716 Ritchie Highway, and patrons are welcome to bring a toy for the drive. For more information and to register, call Carol Boyer at 443-591-2070.
The Severn River Lions Club is selling Florida citrus fruit as part of its annual fundraising to benefit several community groups. Orders should be placed by Saturday, Nov. 16, for delivery between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Road. Any fruit remaining after 1 p.m. will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

'The Cover of Life'

Child care grants
If you are a grandparent or relative, 55 or older, and the primary caregiver for a child 18 or younger, you may be eligible for a grant program offered by the National Family Caregiver Support Program. The Bowie Baysox are offering two ticket packages for the holidays. Each include a Chris Tillman bobblehead and eight undated tickets for the Baysox's 2014 season. This nonprofit organization collects used books nationwide and sends them to U.S. troops deployed overseas.
