Library meeting

Anne Arundel County Public Library will hold a town hall-style meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at its North County branch, 1010 Eastway in Glen Burnie. 'In the Heat of the Night'

Bowie Community Theatre presents a play based on John Ball's Oscar-winning film and the Emmy-winning television series of the same name, March 15-30 at the Bowie Playhouse, 16500 White Marsh Park Drive. Fruit fundraiser

The Severn River Lions Club is selling Florida citrus fruit as part of its fundraising to benefit community groups and schools. Orders should be placed by Saturday, March 16, for delivery between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. March 23 at Severna Park High School, 60 Robinson Road. From 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., remaining fruit will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Fashion show

Jaguar Land Rover of Annapolis hosts the second annual Fashion in High Gear Charity Fashion Show, benefiting the YWCA, from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 21 at 101 Ferguson Road. Singing workshop

The Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus will sponsor a free multi-week workshop for men who want to become better choral singers, beginning March 21 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1300 West St. in Annapolis. Course features detailed instruction on proper posture, breathing, resonance, and diction. Sessions will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Family fun at stadium

The Bowie Baysox will hold their 14th annual Family FunFest at Prince George's Stadium from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 23. The event takes place rain or shine and features free rides and games in Louie's Kids Park, music and games on the concourse and displays from local businesses and organizations. Single-game tickets for the coming Baysox season go on sale for the first time and the box office will be open all day. Season-ticket holders can pick up their ticket plans at the event and are invited to an exclusive luncheon in the Diamond View Restaurant. Information:

Bus trip

The Retired Officers' Wives Club of Fort George G. Meade is sponsoring a bus trip on April 16 to the Sight and Sound Theater in Pennsylvania to see a presentation of "Noah." The cost is $100 per person, which covers the bus ride, a smorgasbord lunch at Hershey Farms Restaurant and a ticket to the show. Visitors guide

The 2013 Visitors Guide by the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Conference and Visitors Bureau is now available. The 72-page, full-color guide contains information on things to do and see, events, dining, night life, accommodations, shopping and more. The Visitors Center is located at 26 West St. in Annapolis and is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Anthem auditions

The Bowie Baysox will hold auditions Saturday, March 16, for those who would like to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at home games during the coming season. Prince George's Stadium gates open at 9 a.m. for registration, and auditions begin at 9:30 a.m. Every participant must register, and auditions are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditions will be held rain or shine, reservations for audition times will not be accepted, and word sheets are not allowed during the audition. All auditions must be done in person. Bus trip

The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society is sponsoring a bus trip to Ford's Theatre, with its new Center for Education and Leadership and the Congressional Cemetery Civil War Tour, on May 18. The seventh annual Emily Schindler Memorial Triathlon will be held April 20 at the Community Center in Severna Park. The 800-yard swim, 9.5-mile bike ride and 3-mile run will be held at the SPY Aquatics Center, 623 Baltimore/Annapolis Blvd. and the Baltimore/Annapolis Trail. Participants can also sign up for the Flamingo Feat distance, consisting of a 1,600-yard swim, 18-mile bike and 6-mile run. Check in begins at 6 a.m. and the first wave of swimmers will hit the pool at 7 a.m. Cost is $50 for individuals, $90 for a relay team of two and $135 for a three-person relay team. The event is a benefit for the Emily Schindler Memorial Scholarship fund, which was established in 2004 following Emily Schindler's death in a car accident. The scholarship is awarded annually to selected graduating seniors on the SPY swim team who most exemplify Emily's qualities.

Tax season

Volunteers are needed to assist with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program to help seniors and low-income adults with their 2012 tax returns. Participants will be trained by the IRS and the Maryland comptroller's office. They will help only with simple 2012 income tax returns, which will be filed electronically. Volunteers do not do tax returns involving partnerships or corporations, self-employed persons or rental properties. Volunteers are not required to have a financial background, but certified public accountants, attorneys, bookkeepers and those with financial training are encouraged to volunteer. Volunteers will be stationed at county senior centers and will be available by appointment between now and April 5. For more information, call 410-222-6717.

'Operation Paperback'

This nonprofit organization collects used books nationwide and sends them to American troops deployed overseas. Since 1999, more than a million books have been shipped to military personnel around the world. Organizing the effort in this area is Sandy Marron of Annapolis. The Ann Arrundell County Historical Society will open the historic Benson-Hammond House and North Browse and Buy Shoppe at Aviation Boulevard and Andover Road in Linthicum in March. Group tours can be arranged during January and February by calling 410-768-9518.
