Seniors study

The Department of Aging and Disabilities is seeking seniors 80 and older who are mentally sharp and in good health as possible candidates for the National Institute on Aging's Insight into Determinants of Exceptional Aging and Longevity study.

All qualified participants will receive a yearly complete physical examination, including tests of strength, stamina and mental sharpness. This will help the study directors to observe the aging process and to identify the secrets of aging well.

'Women in Industry'

The YWCA's annual "Tribute to Women in Industry" awards dinner, where companies honor executive and professional female employees who have made significant contributions to their workplace and community, will be held beginning at 5:30 p.m. June 6 at the Westin Annapolis, 100 Westgate Circle.

The event also recognizes local companies that promote professional growth and development for female employees.

All proceeds benefit the TWIN program and YWCA services supporting victims of domestic violence programs.

National Anthem auditions

The Bowie Baysox will host auditions March 10 for those who want to sing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at home games.

Prince George's Stadium gates open at 9 a..m. for registration and auditions begin at 9:30 a.m. Every participant must register, and auditions are conducted on a first-come, first-served basis. Auditions will be held rain or shine, and reservations for audition times will not be accepted.

Auditions must be done in person; no CD's, cassettes or videos will be accepted for review.

Triathlon set April 14

The 6th Annual Emily Schindler Memorial Triathlon will be held April 14 in Severna Park.

The 800-yard swim, 91/2-mile bike ride and 3-mile run will be held at the SPY Aquatics Center, 623 Baltimore/Annapolis Blvd. and on the Baltimore/Annapolis Trail. Participants may also sign up for the "Flamingo Feat," with a 1,600-yard swim, 18-mile bike ride and 6-mile run.

Check-in begins at 6 a.m. and the first group of swimmers starts at 7 a.m. Fee is $50, $90 for a relay team of two and $135 for a three-person relay team.
