A father and his son escaped injury Tuesday night during a fire caused by a lighted candle in the living room that extensively damaged their Pasadena home, said an Anne Arundel County Fire Department spokesman. The house had electricity, said Chief Matthew Tobia, the spokesman. The occupants' names were not released.

Reported at 7:30 p.m. in the first block of Johnson Road, the fire began in the living room and quickly spread to the attic while 20 firefighters from stations at Rivera Beach, Jacobsville, Orchard Beach, Glen Burnie and Brooklyn Park battled heavy fire and thick smoke until bringing the blaze under control in about 30 minutes, said Tobia.

Tobia said the fire caused an estimated $225,000 in damage and that the two residents were aided in finding temporary shelter by the Red Cross.
