Cyclist dies in crash on Route 4 in Lothian

A motorcyclist died Thursday evening when he lost control of his cycle in Lothian, slid and struck trees, Anne Arundel County police said. Otis Russell Jones, 43, of Clinton died at the scene of the 8 p.m. crash on Route 4 near Sands Road, police said. Police said a witness told them that Jones was northbound when his 2001 Kawasaki motorcycle crossed the yellow line and went onto the rumble strips on the left shoulder. The motorcycle re-entered the lanes and went out of control. Jones was thrown from his motorcycle and slid several hundred feet into trees, police said. Jones was wearing a helmet. Police said the preliminary investigation indicated that speed contributed to the crash.
