Road of Mourning
Mountain Road in Anne Arundel County, also known as state Route 177, has seen at least 20 people — many in their teens or only a little older — killed along the 11-mile stretch since the early 1990s. Mountain Road is representative of a class of once-pastoral suburban byways that now bear increasing traffic loads with little room to grow.

Kala Marie Austin memorial
A wreath in autumn colors is placed next to a vacant house on Mountain Road. It is part of a memorial to Kala Marie Austin, 17, who was killed in a single car accident after loosing control of her car and striking the house on Mountain Road near Pinehurst Road.

This is absolutley the worst highway in AA county. I'm surprised more young drivers aren't killed here. We tried to turn left last week from a restaurant at 730pm and after sitting for 10 minutes decided we had to turn right to get out of the parking lot then left at the light, make a u-turn and go back to the light and turn right. Horrible road and it will only get worse if the county doesn't do something about it. How many more of our children have to die before its widened out????????
