Anne Arundel County police said a man broke into an Arnold home Wednesday morning, took off when the owner discovered him and, as he fled, crashed his car into another one and abandoned it.

Shortly before 10 a.m., a 62-year-old woman saw a man inside her home in the 1200 block of Baltimore Annapolis Blvd. and called police. When the man realized she was there, he drove away in a dark-colored Saturn and refused to stop when an officer tried to pull him over, according to police.

Officers briefly lost sight of the car, but they spotted it a few minutes later in a ravine off the entrance ramp from northbound Ritchie Highway to westbound Route 100. Police said the car had struck the side of another vehicle on the ramp, causing minor damage, but that car's driver was not injured.

Officers apprehended the suspect near Mountain Road and Ritchie Highway, and he was taken to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of minor injuries, according to police. Luther Green, 42, of the 2700 block of Baker St. in Baltimore was charged with burglary, theft, driving an unregistered car and other violations. Court records indicate that he also faces two pending misdemeanor assault charges.
