Authorities recovered the body of a man who went missing in the Magothy River on the Fourth of July holiday early Friday evening, according to the Department of Natural Resources Police.
Sgt. Brian Albert, a spokesman for the department, said police and fire crews found the body of Nate Young, 27, was found at about 6 p.m. Friday — about 24 hours after he first went missing. Officials suspect that he drowned, although an autopsy has yet to be completed.
Anne Arundel County fire department said Young, who is from Annapolis, had jumped into the river from a 20-foot boat near Gibson and Dobbins islands on Thurday. Some of Young's friends attempted to rescue him themselves but were not able to, according to police.
The friends then called 911 and rescuers searched unsucessfully for two hours that evening before trying again Friday morning.
