Anne Arundel County school officials have whittled their list of superintendent candidates from more than 50 to seven.
Fifty-five people applied to replace Kevin Maxwell, who left Anne Arundel last year to take over the school system in Prince George's. That list was narrowed from 12 and then again to seven, who will be interviewed by members of the Board of Education.
After those interviews, board members will narrow the list further. Those candidates will meet with a 20-member community panel.
The school system has not identified any of the candidates. Interim Superintendent Mamie Perkins has not applied for the job.
The Board of Education plans to appoint a superintendent on April 23.
