A Millersville man was charged with attempted murder Thursday after police said he took a box cutter to the face of a man who had been with his girlfriend.
Police said the victim was with a woman in an otherwise-empty room on the fifth floor of the Conte office building, at 116 Defense Highway in Annapolis. The woman's boyfriend, identified as James Kerry Bennett, 43, entered the room and found the two, allegedly slicing the man's face with a box cutter before running away.
The victim, who police did not identify, was bleeding heavily when police arrived at around 4 p.m. A 911 caller said he had a head injury and was naked from the waist down.
Records indicate the office building is home to several medical practices.
Police said officers found Bennett as he was attempting to hide in the women's bathroom at a nearby Wendy's and took him into custody. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening but required a "significant" number of sutures to close the wounds, police said.
Bennett was charged with attempted first and second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, and reckless endangerment. He is being held on $250,000 bail and no attorney was listed for him in court records.
