Anne Arundel police searching for escaped prisoner

Anne Arundel County Police are searching for a prisoner that escaped their custody on Tuesday in Parole.

Police did not immediately comment on how the prisoner escaped. Officials said he was last seen at a State Highway Administration building at 130 Defense Highway in Parole and was seen running toward Annapolis Mall.

Elwood Veney, 33, was convicted of armed robbery, police said, and is not scheduled to be released until September 2017. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a blue scrub shirt with a gray sweatshirt over top, and has tattoos on his arm, chest and neck, with a name tattooed on his right arm, according to police. He is 5'9 and about 189 pounds.

Police ask that anyone call 911 if they see Veney.
