The body of a man who drowned in southern Anne Arundel County was recovered from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay Tuesday morning.
Multiple people called 911 at 3:30 p.m. on Monday reporting a person drowning at a pier at Chesapeake Drive and Harford Street in Deale's Franklin Manor community, police and fire officials said.
The man, identified as 20-year-old Thomas Brown of Churchton, had gone into the water to retrieve a friend's hat. He went under water and never resurfaced, said Sgt. Brian Albert, a spokesman for the Natural Resources Police.
Police, firefighters and divers searched the area until 9 p.m. Monday and resumed the search at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
At 9:30 a.m., a crew in a Maryland State Police helicopter spotted Brown's body and Natural Resources Police officers were able to pull the body from the water, officials said. The body was found about 1,500 north of the pier, officials said.
Brown's body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The investigation is ongoing, Albert said.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
