Anne Arundel County police will be at Westfield Annapolis Mall on Sunday to take part in an "active shooter" simulation training exercise.
The event, to be held from 6 a.m. to about 10 a.m., is designed to help train law enforcement personnel. In addition to Anne Arundel police, county fire officials and Annapolis police will take part.
The simulation is deemed a "controlled exercise." The mall will be closed to the general public, and emergency equipment will be on hand to simulate a real life active shooter emergency.
Police will send out advisories leading up to and during the event via Reverse 911, Nixle messaging, Facebook and other means to remind residents of the nature of the exercise.
