Crownsville's Perry helps pace McDaniel College in tournament victory

Phillip Perry of Crownsville led McDaniel College over Lycoming, 62-57, in the championship of the Louis Fleming Basinger Memorial Tournament in men's basketball action Tuesday in Williamsport, Pa.

Perry, a graduate of Annapolis Area Christian, led the Green Terror (7-3) to the title with 16 points. He was named tournament most valuable player after 32 points over the two games.

Perry hit several key shots down the stretch, including a steal-and-dunk with 6:15 showing that started a 6-0 McDaniel run; and two free throws with 23 seconds remaining to seal the win.

In Monday’s opening game of the tourney, Perry also had 16 points in the 58-50 win over Misericordia. He also added five rebounds and three steals while going 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.

Duane Echols of Jessup, a graduate of Hammond High, joined Perry on the all-tournament team after a career-best 14 points in the championship game.

The Green Terror returns to action at Penn State-Mont Alto on Saturday at 6 p.m. in its final non-conference game of the season.
