County Executive Laura Neuman is hosting a series of public meetings on next year’s county budget -- sessions are being held in advance of the budget unveiling on May 1.

One meeting will be held this Wednesday, Feb. 19, in conjunction with the county executive’s “community connections” event at Old Mill High School, 600 Patriot Lane in Millersville. The community connections event, which offers a chance to meet with Neuman and department heads, will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The budget meeting will be at 7 p.m.

Another budget session will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Deale Community Library, 5940 Deale-Churchton Road in Deale.

Neuman, a Republican, said she’s been asked to hold sessions to enable residents to comment on the budget before it’s introduced. Democratic County Council candidate and school board member Andrew Pruski sent letters to media outlets in January calling for more public meetings on the budget. Neuman said she’s aware of Pruski’s letters but said they didn’t influence her decision.

After Neuman sends her budget proposal to the county council on May 1, the council will hold its own public hearings.
