Anne Arundel farmers markets opening for the season

With the start of spring weather, the county's farmers' markets are beginning to open.

The main Anne Arundel County Farmers Market at Riva Road and Truman Parkway in Annapolis opened for the season Saturday morning. The market will be open from 7 a.m. until noon Saturdays through December. It also will open from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays from May 27 through Sept. 30.

The Westfield Annapolis Farmers' Market in Annapolis opened Sunday. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first and third Sundays of the month. The market is moving from the garage to a parking lot on the Bestgate Road side of the mall.

The markets, which are organized and promoted by the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp., are producer-only, meaning all products must be grown or made by the vendors themselves. This time of year, vendors are offering kale, collards, beets, sprouts, microgreens, lettuce, vegetables and plants for home gardens, such as pansies, according to the AAEDC.

Other farmers' markets will open later in the year:

•Piney Orchard: Open from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays starting June 4 on Stream Valley Drive in Odenton.

•Deale: Open from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays starting July 3 at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church parking lot.
