Zachary Bush scores winner for Southern soccer at tourney

Zachary Bush tallied the game-winning goal with 21 seconds left in the second overtime as Southern defeated host Queen Anne’s, 2-1, to win the Lions Cup Tournament. Tim Stelacone also scored for Southern. Robert Hultberg had an assist and Ronald Clark made nine saves on the day. Southern outshot both opponents by a combined 36-12.

SOUTHERN 7, BOHEMIA MANOR 1: Avery Bush had three goals and an assist and brother Zachary added two goals and an assist as the Bulldogs won big in the early game on Saturday. Jeff Greiner and Ben Murphy each had a goal while Matt Smith, Hunter Weiss, Jack Malloy, Coleman Campbell, Axel Aldana and Robert Hultberg each contributed an assist.

ARUNDEL 3, PARKDALE 2: Mike Magorka, Ezra Heath and Josh Weyand scored goals as Arundel defeated Parkdale, 3-2, on Saturday at the Brendon McCarron Memorial Tournament Josh Wick had 13 saves as the Wildcats earned their first win.

ANNAPOLIS 3, NORTHEAST 2: The Panthers scored a late goal to edge the Eagles at the Great Mills Tournament. Cole Switzer Matt Zephir scored for Northeast.

GREAT MILLS 4, NORTHEAST 1: Angel Calderon scored for the Eagles in a morning game. Nathan Berry had four saves.

NORTH COUNTY 1, ELEANOR ROOSEVELT 1: Chad Bobrick tied the game in the second half to earn the Knights a draw at the tournament at Arundel. Chris Martel had three saves.

MEADE 2, HOWARD 1 (OT): Silas Baker netyed the game-winning goal on an assist from Tosin Ayokunle 30 seconds into overtime to allow the Mustangs to win the Meade Fall Classic. Meade went up early in the second half with a goal from Ayokunle, with the assist credited to Baker.

Girls Soccer

OLD MILL 4, BOHEMIA MANOR 0: Rebecca Verdi, Julia Bagnell, Emily Mohammed and Carrigan Bidinger all scored goals in Old Mill’s shutout over Bohemia Manor. Kasi Doss and Celia Metzger each had two saves.

OLD MILL 1, LIBERTY 1: Harley Jacobs, assisted by Rebecca Verdi, scored the lone goal in Old Mill’s draw against Liberty. Kasi Doss had eight saves.

RESERVOIR 2, MEADE 0: The Mustangs were blanked in the opener of the Reservoir tournament by the host Gators.

MEADE 1, HAMMOND 0: Freshman Sophia Bellafatto scored the game's lone goal in the Mustangs' second game of the day, finishing the weekend 1-1.


A DIVISION: Matt Snowden shot a 37 and Addison Wells carded a 40 to lead the Falcons to a four-shot victory at Friday’s A Division match at Bay Hills. The Falcons finished at 161. Pete Regala added a 42 for Severna Park.

South River finished second at 165 and was led by Manca Teran with a 39 and Joe Gaulin’s 41. Broadneck (176) was led by Trent Woodfin, who shot a 42. Arundel (194) was led by Sawyer Baxter, who shot a 43.


ST. MARY’S 3, ANNAPOLIS 0: Alli Cherry had nine kills, Sydney Heatley had five aces and 12 assists, and Adriana Sita added eight digs as the Saints defeated Annapolis on Friday 25-13, 25-19 and 25-15.
