Broadneck knocks off defending Class 2A state champions

Megan Munley recorded a goal and two assists and Julia Harrison and Anna Feick scored the final goals for Broadneck in a 5-3 victory over Hereford, the defending Class 2A state champions, on Wednesday in field hockey.

Kaala Puglisi and Sammy Dupcak also scored and Teresa Pelli and Emily Eckels had assists for Broadneck (8-3-1), which scored the game’s final two goals to break a 3-3 tie. Peri Long made five saves for the Bruins.

SPALDING 3, BRYN MAWR 2: Margot Lawn scored twice and Kristin O’Neill added a goal for the Cavaliers, who survived a late comeback attempt after heading into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Jess Norton made 12 saves, Jenna Garden had two assists and Payton Kenney added an assist for Spalding (9-4).

MERCY 2, KEY 1: Addison Neise scored the lone goal and Hannah Stark and Angela Harris combined for five saves for the Obezags (3-6-2).

Indian Creek dropped duals to Park, 15-50, and Severn, 16-46, on Tuesday at Park’s Sugar Campus. Anthony Corrado led the Eagles with a 19:29 and Liam Lonergan came in at 19:35.


KENT ISLAND 3, COLONEL RICHARDSON 0: Catrina Coyner and Lily Golembeski had five kills each for the Buccaneers (8-5), who won sets 25-20, 25-21 and 25-18. Desiree Hanks had seven digs, Katie Sonneveldt had 10 aces and Bethany Doyle had 13 assists.
