Girls basketball roundup: Chew leads balanced attack for Chesapeake

Ashley Chew scored 23 points to lead Chesapeake to a 79-34 victory over Severn on Wednesday in girls basketball.

Chew added seven rebounds and three steals and three other players posted double-figure totals in scoring or rebounding for Chesapeake (15-5).

Brooke Worrell added 18 points and 12 rebounds, Haley Downin had 15 points, eight rebounds and four steals and Summer Smith grabbed 10 rebounds to go with her seven points.

Morgan Skinner led Severn (5-17) with 13 points.

SEVERNA PARK 51, NORTHEAST 24: Rachel Spilker scored nine points to lead the Falcons’ balanced scoring attack against the Eagles.

Hailey Betch added seven points and nine rebounds, while Lena McLaughlin had 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals and was one of four players who scored six points, including Julia Ryan (eight rebounds), Jessica Giblin and Cam Chew.

The Falcons (12-8) led 22-18 at the half, but outscored Northeast (4-16) 19-0 in the third quarter.

ST. TIMOTHY’S 61, ST. MARY’S 52 (2OT): Whitney Albert scored 15 points to lead the Saints in a double-overtime loss at St. Timothy’s.

The teams were tied at 37 at the end of regulation and needed a second overtime, as well, to decide the winner.

Karry Kelliher had 12 points and seven rebounds, Claire Richardson followed with 11 points and Elizabeth Gilman finished with eight points and seven rebounds for St. Mary’s (13-9).
