The former No.1 ranked high school goalie at Severn School, Phipps was drafted 23rd overall by the Bayhawks out of Maryland in the 2010 MLL Collegiate Draft.
“It was a no brainer signing Brian to a two-year deal. He means a lot to this team, organization, and sport,” said Chesapeake Bayhawks Owner, Brendan Kelly. “Brian is an exceptional ambassador for the sport of lacrosse and continues to help grow the sport in our community. An Annapolis native like myself, it is an honor to see the passion and support he has for the Annapolis area community.”
“Brian is one of the finest young men I have ever coached, let alone been around,” said head coach and general manager Dave Cottle, “He is a great competitor, great leader, and a fantastic teammate.”
Phipps, a native of Annapolis, is a three-time All-Star (2011, 2016, and 2017). After starting 10 games in his rookie season with the Bayhawks, Phipps was claimed by the Ohio Machine in the 2012 MLL Expansion Draft. In 2016, following four years with the Machine and a 2015 season where he posted 206 saves, the Bayhawks traded away goalie Tyler Fiorito to Boston and used their second-round draft pick to reacquire Phipps.
Phipps is the head coach at Archbishop Spalding, where he also serves as a history teacher.
