Police investigating stabbing in downtown Annapolis

Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred in downtown Annapolis early Saturday morning.

In a media release Monday, the Annapolis Police Department said a man reported being stabbed around 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the 100 block of Main Street.

Police said the man told them he was trying to break up a fight when he was punched in the head. The punch sent him to the ground, he said, and then several people began kicking him. He said he was stabbed in the chest and leg.

The man initially went home, police said.

Around 3 a.m. Annapolis Police were called to Baltimore Washington Medical Center, police spokeswoman Sgt. Amy Miguez said, where the man was being treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.
