Police: Man shot early Saturday in Annapolis

Annapolis police are investigating a shooting early Saturday morning in the Newtowne neighborhood off Forest Drive.

Police said officers were called to the area of Betsy Court at Newtowne Drive about 12:50 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Officers located a man outside suffering from a gunshot wound in the 800 block of Betsy Court. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

He was alert and conscious, but suffering from critical injuries, police said.

Police said detectives believe the shooting took place outside in the 800 block of Betsy Court.

The shooting took place a mile from the site of a prayer walk planned Saturday to mark the two year anniversary of 25-year-old Charles Carroll, of Baltimore, and bring attention to unsolved homicides in the city.

Carroll was found with a gunshot wound inside his vehicle on July 28, 2016.

His father, Bishop Charles Carroll, other clergy and community members will hold a press conference and prayer walk starting at 6 p.m. in the 900 block of Royal Street, the block where his son was found.
