A rally celebrating the creation of a NAACP youth council will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 14 at Kingdom Celebration Center in Odenton.

The Anne Arundel County branch of the NAACP is launching an Anne Arundel County Youth Council of the NAACP aimed at teaching leadership and political and community activism to ages 21 and younger. The theme of the rally is “Courageous Together,” according to the NAACP news release.

Speakers to the youth council include Charnell Ferguson, president of the Maryland State Conference NAACP Youth and College Division, and author Christopher White.

People involved with the youth council may have an opportunity to join the NAACP’s Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, or ACT-SO. The program recruits high achieving African-American high students for national competitions.
