Kristen Zorica of St. John the Evangelist School in Severna Park was named the Archdiocese of Baltimore’s elementary teacher of the year Tuesday.

Zorica is a middle school teacher at St. John the Evangelist, a Roman Catholic school for students in pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. She’s been a teacher for 18 years, the Archdiocese said in a press release.

The chancellor of education for the Archdiocese Jim Sellinger said she makes students excited to “read, write and talk about literature and the world around them.”

Zorica and the Archdiocese’s high school teacher of the year Genie Massey of St. Maria Goretti High School in Hagerstown will be honored at the 2018 Convocation of Catholic Schools Aug. 26 in Timonium.
