A man was charged with assault and robbery Monday after police said he pushed a woman down and stole her possessions in Annapolis.

Annapolis police said officers responded to a call of a robbery in the area of 900 Bay Ridge Road at 1:35 p.m.

A woman told police a man pushed her to the ground and stole her money and cell phone before running off.

The man, identified as David Sorrell, 30, of Annapolis, was apprehended a short time later with the woman’s cell phone near Forest Hills Avenue, police said.

He was arrested and charged with robbery, second-degree assault and misdemeanor theft.

Sorrell is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond. No attorney is listed as representing him in online court records.
