A six-vehicle crash on Interstate-97 north sent five people to the hospital Wednesday, backing traffic up nine miles.

The accident near New Cut Road around 5 p.m. involved an armored truck, Anne Arundel County Fire spokesman Erik Kornmeyer said.

A 51-year-old woman was taken to University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious but not believed to be life-threatening injuries, Kornmeyer said. Four other people were taken to Harbor Hospital in Baltimore for minor injuries, Kornmeyer said.

Fire officials have cleared the scene and the State Highway Administration does not yet have an estimate for how long delays will be, but say traffic backs up nine miles.
