PORT CHESTER, N.Y. (WPIX)—A 78-year-old Pelham Manor man is blaming his 2010 Toyota for a crash Wednesday afternoon that left him and his wife, in their Toyota, on top of two unoccupied cars.
Rocco A. Doino claimed the Toyota just "took off," causing it to slam into two curbs and flop on top of the two cars, Port Chester Police told PIX 11 News.
"All of a sudden, the car took off," Lt. James Ladearious said the driver told police.
The man and his 74-year-old wife, Bridie, were both taken to White Plains Hospital Center with chest pains.
This past year Toyota has recalled more than 8 million cars due to accelerator issues. However, no determination has been made if this latest incident has anything to do with the Japanese Company's troubles.
The car, in question, was towed by a private company and police say it will be up to the couple or Toyota to further investigate whether accelerator difficulties were responsible for this crash.
