NEW YORK (WPIX)—Rapper Shyne was released from prison Tuesday after serving nearly 9 years behind bars at Clinton Correctional facility for an infamous club shooting that involved Sean "Diddy" Combs and former flame Jennifer Lopez.
Shyne, whose birth name is Jamal Barro, was charged in March 2001, with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment.
Shyne admitted to firing a gun at Club New York but said he was acting in self-defense and that another shooter's bullets injured the two victims.
The rapper faced up to 25 years behind bars but was only sentenced to a 10-year prison term which began on June 1, 2001.
While behind bars, Shyne dropped two albums and reportedly converted to Judiasm. He supposedly changed his name to Moses Michael Leviy.
