BROOKLYN, N.Y. (WPIX)—Parents of an 11-month old baby are behind bars in connection with his sudden death.
Rafael Colon, 43, and Denise Gonzalez, 29, were charged with endangering the welfare of a child after investigators said they left their five children - all under the age of 11 - home alone while they went shopping.
While the couple was gone, police were called to their home on Highland Boulevard in Cypress Hills, after someone placed a 911 call claiming the baby had difficulty breathing.
When police arrived, the boy had already been taken to the hospital. He reportedly suffered a bruise on his forehead.
The infant, identified as Major Gonzalez died at Brookdale Hospital Monday night.
The medical examiner is still investigating the infant's sudden death.
