NEW YORK (WPIX)—it's street art that is perfectly legal -- and popular, too.
Artist Shepard Fairey, who created the the iconic Obama "HOPE" poster, is in the process of painting a new mural on the corner of Bowery and Houston Street in Manhattan's SoHo section. It's a significant spot for Fairey, who once tagged walls in that general area. This latest artwork is there to promote Fairey's upcoming show at Deitch Projects.
The mural is located across the street from the landmark Sunshine Cinema, which is now showing the film "Exit through the Gift Shop." The movie features Fairey and was directed by the street artist Banksy.
Fairey says the mural will be up for six months.
