NEW YORK, NY_(WPIX)—Mets Murphy Out 4-6 Weeks
The Mets' injury woes continued today as the team learned first baseman Daniel Murphy will miss 2-6 weeks with a sprained knee, reports WFAN.
Murphy injured the knee during a run down in a spring training game yesterday. The team classified the injury as a bruise after the game, but the injury worsened over night.
This clouds the team's situation at first base. Early projections have non-roster invitee Mike Jacobs as the team's opening day first baseman. Meanwhile some fans are clamoring for highly-touted prospect Ike Davis to win the job.
"He's in good spirits," Mets third baseman David Wright told PIX Sports. "It could have been a lot worse any time you talk about the knee. For him to miss the first couple of weeks is a good thing."
According to Wright, Murphy is "ready to get rehabbing and rejoin the team as soon as possible."
