EAST FARMINGDALE, N.Y. (WPIX)—A Long Island mother of two was arrested Tuesday after police say she left her children home alone and went to a local bar.
According to Suffolk authorities, Emelia Garcia-Cobos, 23, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child after leaving her children, ages 3 and 4, at home while she went to a bar early Tuesday morning.
The children's father, identified as 28-year-old Carlos Cruz called 911 at 3:40 a.m. after he arrived to the East Farmingdale home on Lincoln Ave. and discovered that the children were left home alone.
Cruz stayed with the children until police arrived to the home. Garcia-Cobos returned from the bar thirty minutes later and was arrested, police said.
It wasn't immediately clear if the children were released to their father. A referral was made to Suffolk County Child Protective Services, according to police.
