NEW YORK (WPIX)—On Long Island, all eyes are on the sky for Memorial Day weekend.
Nearly 150,000 people turned out for the Blue Angels air show at Jones Beach Sunday. Navy fighter jets performed a series of twists and turns that kept spectators on the edge of their seat. The two-day event honors the US servicemen and women.
The only drawback? The parking fee is now up to $10. Still, parking lots at Jones Beach State Park filled up before noon on Sunday.
Others poured out to the beach to soak up some sun. Temperatures remained in the mid-80s inland and around 80 degrees on the beach Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.
And with all the planes up above, people couldn't help but pay tribute to the men and women who have died in military service.
