Prostitutes and pimps across Louisiana and the country are recovering from a rough weekend.

The FBI's "Operation Cross Country" hit streets nation-wide from last Friday to Sunday.

The New Orleans branch announced it arrested more than a dozen prostitutes and 10 pimps.

The sweep specifically targeted underage prostitution and child exploitation. In Louisiana 79 children were said to be recovered in total.

Jim Kelly of the Covenant House in New Orleans says such operations are sorely needed.

"We know there's a growing need out there. There is more trafficking, taking place of younger kids, as well as things that are taking place across state lines," Kelly said.

The Covenant house takes in close to 100 local at-risk adolescents a night, offering food, shelter, job training, medicine and other means to get on their feet.
