Hundreds of Thibodaux residents turned out to pay their respects to a 7-year old boy who was allegedly slain by his father.
Jori Lirette, a wheelchair-bound child who suffered from cerebral palsy was killed and decapitated by his father Jeremiah Wright on August 14, according to police. Authorities said Wright said he was tired of taking care of his special needs son.
The community held a memorial in Peltier Park Sunday where members lit candles and released balloons in honor of Lirette. His funeral is slated for Thursday.
Wright remains in jail on a $5 million bond. Prosecutors have not said whether they will seek the death penalty.
