Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man on Wednesday who they say shot a New Orleans Police officer in the hand on Tuesday night just under the Crescent City Connection bridge in Algiers.

Deputies arrested Troy Armstead without incident at an apartment in the 1900 block of Lafayette Street in Gretna, according to JPSO spokesman John Fortunato.

Armstead is accused of shooting NOPD Officer Terrence Hilliard in the hand during a traffice stop near the intersection of Mardi Gras Blvd. and Hermosa Street. The driver who was stopped, Lawrence Dugay was arrested then by police, but Armstead fled and shot officers chasing him, according to an NOPD release.

JPSO deputies credit the help of the US Marshal’s Office and investigators from newly-formed multi-agency Criminal Intelligence Center which helped to locate Armstead.

Investigators with the NOPD Homicide, JPSO and Gretna Police Department are currently conducting follow up investigations to include a search warrant at the location.
