Sen. David Vitter's office says his committee assignments in the 112th Congress will make him the second-highest ranking Republican on the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Vitter will also continue service on the Small Business Committee, where he will also be the second-highest Republican, the Armed Services Committee, and the Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, according to a Thursday news release.

Vitter said he will use his position on the Environment committee to push for coastal projects for Louisiana and for resumption of offshore oil drilling following what he and other Louisiana officials call a "de facto moratorium" on permits since the BP oil spill.
