HAMMOND—Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports the safe return of prisoners Eric Maurer and his father Rickey Maurer to Tangipahoa Parish.
Today, August 20, 2010, at approximately noon, Tangipahoa Parish Detective Dale Athmann and Detective Jimmy Travis arrived at the Hammond Airport with the two suspects. Detectives flew to the Waverly, TN Airport early this morning via a jet provided by Pierce Aviation. In court proceedings yesterday, both subjects waived extradition and voluntarily returned to Tangipahoa Parish. They were transported to the Tangipahoa Parish Jail where Eric Maurer was booked with First Degree Murder and Aggravated Burglary and Rickey Maurer was booked with Accessory After The Fact to First Degree Murder.
Bond is expected to be set for both subjects August 23, 2010.

Update to Rogers's Murder Investigation:
On August 15, 2010 Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office Detectives traveled to Waverly, TN to meet with and interview the two suspects arrested for the murder of Rube Rogers. Today, August 16, 2010, Detectives Dale Athmann, Mike Moore and Deputy Jimmy Travis made contact with both Eric and Ricky Maurer. In a taped confession, Eric admitted to killing Rogers. Maurer's confession was consistent with the evidenced found at the crime scene. His motive, robbery; he needed money to purchase drugs. At this time, Ricky Maurer is still being charged with Accessory after the fact. He stated that during the road trip to TN, his son did confess and he willingly continued on the path to TN.
Detectives were also able to recover the stolen vehicle which the father and son duo used as they fled to TN. Both subjects are expected to go before a judge in Thursday August 19, 2010 and wave extradition. Detectives plan to return to TN on Friday and bring both suspects back to Tangipahoa Parish.
UPDATE in Murder Investigation. Two suspects arrested in the murder of Ponchatoula resident Rube Rogers.
HAMMOND Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that two arrests in the murder of lifelong Ponchatoula resident Rube Rogers within 24 hours of the tragic incident.
The investigation began approximately at 11:00 pm on August 13, 2010, when deputies arrived at Rogers's residence where they found him lying in a pool of blood non-responsive. The investigation revealed at that time that 31 year old Eric Lane Maurer, the victim's step son, was responsible for Roger's death.
Through further investigation, Detective Dale Athmann confirmed that suspect Eric Maurer and his father, Ricky Maurer (DOB 2.14.59 of Independence, LA), left town and were on the run. Detectives confirmed that the duo checked into a Days Inn near Nashville TN. In partnership with the Humphreys County Sheriff Office, detectives were able to set up surveillance around the hotel and observe the suspects. Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis utilized his SRT (Special Response Team) to secure the location and plan to apprehend both suspects. At approximately 11:15 pm on August 14, 2010, Davis and his team successfully apprehended both suspects without incident.
Both suspects are current being held in the Humphreys County jail in Waverly TN as fugitives for the state of Louisiana awaiting extradition back to Tangipahoa Parish. Eric Maurer will be returned on charges of 1st degree murder and Aggravated burglary. Detectives are still gathering evidence on Rickey Maurer's involvement in the murder of Rube Rogers. As it stands now, Ricky Maurer will be charged with Accessory after the Fact for 1st degree murder based on current information.
While the suspects were in Nashville, they went to the ranch of Loretta Lynn seeking employment before checking into the hotel. TPSO received information that Loretta Lynn's son Ernest Ray Lynn, who oversees the ranch, was close a friend of Rube Rogers. Eric Maurer had become acquainted with Ernest Ray Lynn through Rube Rogers. The two suspects had the expectation of possibly gaining employment on the ranch while in TN.

Murder Suspect Sought by TPSO
PONCHATOULA- Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards reports that the Sheriff's Office is investigating the murder of 65 year old Ponchatoula resident Rube Rogers which occurred Friday night August 13, 2010, at approximately 11:00 pm.
Deputies reported that upon arrival at the Paradise Road address in Ponchatoula, they discovered that the victim had been stabbed multiple times and was unresponsive. Subsequently, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Tangipahoa Parish Corners Office.
Through further investigation, detectives developed the suspect identified as Eric Lane Maurer, 31 of Springfield, LA. Maurer is presently being sought by the TPSO for first degree murder and aggravated burglary. Detectives speculate that the motive for Maurer's actions was robbery.
The investigation also revealed that the victim raised the suspect since childhood. Detectives are asking anyone having information regarding Maurer's whereabouts to please contact the TPSO, Detective Dale Athmann at 985.902.2088 or Crime Stoppers at 800.554.5245.
