NEW ORLEANS—If your home has been burglarized, you know the feeling. Whether it's expensive or petty stuff taken, you feel violated.
But what if you were one of Several Garden District homeowners to be in hit by a guy who went the extra mile, not just a crook who ripped you off but one who also raided your fridge?
People in at least ten homes on Magazine street and elsewhere may be able to rest easy, now that Jerry Yates is locked up. At an NOPD comstat meeting Friday morning, 6th District cops say they busted a repeat burglar who broke or walked in through front doors before swiping property, spare change and grub. In one case, cops said he ate someone's lasagna.
Booking records at the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office say Yates was jailed Sunday for illegal possession of stolen things.
Last month the NOPD released sketches of man they said had a "rotund mid-section" and who burglarized homes on Magazine Street.
Uptown Messenger, a neighborhood website, said a 2nd District officer recognized yates last Saturday in the street as he rode a bicycle. The site said he was brought in for questioning, and victims confirmed to cops the bike and a pocket knife Yates was carrying had been stolen out of a home.
