NEW ORLEANS—The U.S. Marshals' Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force in New Orleans arrested Darrel Tillis today without incident in the 1900 block of Arts Street in New Orleans.
Tillis was wanted by the Jackson Police Department, Jackson, MS for the murder of 28-year-old Michael Olowo-ake, who died as a result of multiple gunshot wounds on April 11 at a gas station on North State St. in Jackson.
Tillis is a verified gang member of the Black Gangster Disciples and has a long criminal history which includes armed robbery, assault, drug possession and a prior murder charge.
The search for Tillis began on April 14 and ended today after the U.S. Marshal's Task Force members in Jackson developed information that Tillis may be hiding out in a residence in New Orleans.
The Task Force office in New Orleans was notified and made aware of this information and confirmed that Tillis was indeed residing at the address. Tillis was encountered inside of the residence and taken into custody without incident. Tillis will be held in the Orleans Parish Jail until his extradition proceedings can be completed.
