A federal trial is opening for a formerLouisiana congressman's brother charged with bribing a former NewOrleans school board member for her support in awarding schoolcontracts.

Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday for the case againstMose Jefferson, whose brother, former Rep. William Jefferson, wasconvicted of unrelated corruption charges last week by a federaljury in Virginia.

Mose Jefferson allegedly paid a $140,000 kickback to formerschool board member Ellenese Brooks-Simms as a reward for hersupport in awarding contracts to a computer-based learning systemhe sold to the New Orleans public schools.

Jefferson also is accused of enlisting his girlfriend, formerstate Rep. Renee Gill Pratt, to use her position to secure statefunding for other schools to purchase the product.
