Fatal Crash in St. Charles Parish Claims One Life
Yesterday evening, at approximately 8:25 PM, Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated a fatal crash on US 90 east at milepost 250, just east of Willowdale Boulevard in St. Charles Parish. Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2003 Toyota Corolla, driven by Erick Marks (W/M, age 73) of Luling, LA, was exiting a private parking lot on US 90. As the Toyota exited the drive into the right eastbound lane of US 90, it was struck by a 2005 Volkswagen SUV, driven by Charles Johnson (B/M, age 66) of New Orleans, LA. Johnson suffered moderate injuries and was transported to West Jefferson Medical Center. Marks was transported to St. Charles Parish Hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead. Speed is not considered to be a factor in the crash, however troopers suspect that Marks was impaired at the time of the crash. Blood test results are pending an autopsy. Driving impaired by alcohol and/or drugs is not only illegal, but has deadly consequences. Please drive sober and remember that the person that has NOT consumed alcohol/drugs is the designated driver.
