A criminal case has been dropped against an investigator for the Orleans Parish public defenders office.

Emily Beasley had been booked with simple kidnapping on July 15 after she was accused of kidnapping the alleged victims in a child rape case in order to get an interview. But the district attorney's office refused the charge last month.

Authorities say Beasley interviewed the two girls on the steps of a church across the street from their apartment building - even though their mother told the defenders office not to speak with them.

Beasley was arrested under a law protecting crime victims.
