The man accused of a hit and run accident is in police custody.

New Orleans police say 22-Year old Shawn Dejean Jr. surrendered around 9:15 Wednesday night.

Detectives told family members about Dejean's arrest just as a prayer vigil for Asia Williams was ending.

The 3-year old died from injuries she sustained when she was struck by the speeding motorcycle investigators say Dejean was riding.

Asia was in the front yard of her mother's home in the 8800 block of Dinkins when the accident happened. She was watching fireworks when family members say she walked from behind two parked cars into the path of Dejean's motorcycle.

Hundreds gathered at the accident scene to memorialize Asia.

A large number of people from the biker community attended the prayer vigil to encourage the hit and run driver to surrender.

Dejean has been charged with manslaughter, reckless operation, and hit and run, according to the Orlean Parish Sheriff's office.
