Pope's Mass: Being there worth the trouble

On April 17, my alarm clock awakened me at 2 a.m. so I could drive to a Washington hotel, where I would catch an early media bus to the new Nationals Park and prepare for coverage of Pope Benedict XVI's Mass later that morning. Groggy, I pulled myself out of bed, downed two cups of coffee already brewed from the automatic coffee maker and headed to D.C., stopping only to pick up fellow photographer Amy Davis.

Facing priest abuses, pope initiates healing

This was supposed to be an introduction. Jean Marbella: Fielding the setup for papal event

O'Malley reflects on papal Mass, Catholic faith

Gov. Martin O'Malley's Catholic faith is an important part of his public service, but he does not let it dictate the decisions he makes, he said after celebrating Mass with the pope at Nationals Park in Washington yesterday.

Politics to greet pope on U.S. visit

Pope Benedict XVI arrives in the United States this week amid a full-throttle presidential campaign, with Sens. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and John McCain seeking support from the same engaged Catholics the pontiff hopes to reach.

Deciphering Benedict XVI

Pope Benedict XVI comes to Washington this week a virtual stranger in the United States, home to the third-largest Catholic flock on the planet. But his itinerary, which includes stadium-sized Masses for tens of thousands of followers, will provide an opportunity to change his image as a dour disciplinarian.

Catholic bicentennial

The Archdiocese of Baltimore will celebrate its bicentennial starting next month with work on a new prayer garden near downtown, musical performances in the Basilica of the Assumption and an exhibit of the Catholic community's history at St. Mary's Seminary.
