HOUSTON—Houston Police Department detectives Sunday were searching for a man accused of stabbing his roommate to death and leaving his body near a dumpster.
Jesus Castaneda, 25, is wanted for murdering his roommate. According to officials, the incident occurred around 3 a.m. Sunday at Burnham Wood Apartments in the 3100 block of Mangum near West 34th in Northwest Harris County.
Police said a late-night party got out of hand when Castaneda and his roommate began arguing.
"[We] don't really know what the content of the argument was or why it happened," HPD Homicide Division Ofc. Bobby Roberts said.
Castaneda picked up a butcher knife and stabbed the victim, police said. He then used a blanket to drag the victim's body out of the room and left him near a dumpster before taking off on foot.
According to investigators, several people witnessed the stabbing but did not alert authorities. Passers-by saw the body Sunday morning and called police.
Monica Herrera woke up to the crime scene at her apartment complex Sunday morning and saw the man's lifeless body near the dumpster.
"[I saw] his body just there," Herrera said. "Blood was coming out. He was wrapped in a blanket."
"It's shocking to see these things happen because we never expect to see it," neighbor Marin Hernandez said.
If you have any information about this case or if you know where Castaneda may be hiding, call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
