Finding a safe child care may be easier than you think. The State of Texas Department of Family and Protective Services has a web site that lists all of the registered child care operators in the state. Every child care is required by law to register with the state. Once registered they are monitored by regulators.
"A child care licensing representative visits the day care, or home based operation
on a regular basis. Investigators do regular criminal background checks on people who work there. They also provide fire and health inspections," said Gwen Carter of the Department of Family and Protective Services.
The results of the investigations are provided on a State of Texas web site. The web site is www.txchildcaresearch.org.
You should also do some work on your own according to Carter.
"Make unannounced visits. Continue to check on your child," Carter said.
