Community theater to present musical

The Drama Learning Center's Summer Stage, a new community theater, will present the musical, Songs for a New World, July 31 through Aug. 9 at the center, 9130-I Red Branch Road.
Performances will be at 8 p.m. July 31 and Aug. 1, 2, 7 and 9, and 10 p.m. Aug. 8 (with a pre-show event at 8:30 p.m.)
Tickets are $15; $12 for groups of 10 people or more. Reservations are recommended.

Vendors sought Applications are being accepted for vendors for a Save the Earth event at Lake Elkhorn Park from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 27. The event, sponsored by the Columbia Association's Teen and Middle School Advisory committees, will feature entertainment, food, crafts, games and information. Organizations are welcome to apply. •"Harmonize Exercise Class" meets 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. O.H. Laster, a personal fitness trainer, teaches "Stamina, Strength, Stretch and Synergy." The cost is $24 a month; no drop-ins.
•Pilates class, to improve strength, flexibility and coordination while reducing stress, meets noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays. The cost is $42 for seven weeks. 410-313-7680.

Children's programs Classes for preschool-age children at the East Columbia library are designed to teach creative expression, social skills, listening comprehension and the foundations of reading through letter and number recognition, and to build vocabulary.
•"Story Bug Parade," for ages 2 and 3 with an adult will be offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Mondays, through July 28. Tickets are available at the Children's Desk 30 minutes before the class.
•Classes for kindergartners through fifth-graders are intended to develop cognitive and social skills. "Brown Bag and Books for Boys," a chance for boys ages 9 to 11 to read and talk about books, will be offered at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday. Registration is required.
•"Eric Carle's Bugs" teaches lessons about insects using the Carle's classic children's books. The class, for ages 4 to 6, will be offered at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Wednesdays, this week and July 30. Registration required.
Kriya yoga learning, initiation Brahmachari Vidyananda will speak about "Kriya Yoga, the Ancient Science of Meditation" at 7 p.m. Friday at the Owen Brown Interfaith Center, 7246 Cradlerock Way. Those interested can be initiated in Kriya Yoga at the local Kriya Yoga center in Ellicott City at 9 a.m. Saturday, and new and current initiates can participate in guided meditations and talks on July 27. 410-451-5506 or visit www.kriya.org.
Vendors sought The Oakland Mills Community Association is seeking vendors for its Cultural Arts Festival, to be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 4 in the Oakland Mills Village Center.
